About us

It all started when…

Founded in 1993 by Greek-born hospitality pioneer Andrew Economous, Neo Cafe & Eatery began life as simply Cafe Neo — inspired by the traditional Greek kafeneio: a place to gather, talk, debate over coffee, play a few cards, and leave a little warmer than when you arrived.

Over the years, the cafe has evolved and grown in character. Today, it’s led by GM Elliot Doe and Head Chef Rachel Johnson, alongside Owner Chef Luke Crawford, who brought with him a long-standing connection to Coffee Supreme — forming a partnership that remains at the heart of what we do. Under their direction, Neo has stayed true to its original spirit while carving out its place in Wellington’s vibrant hospitality scene as a beloved brunch destination.

At Neo, we believe hospitality isn’t just a service — it’s a mindset. Our mission remains simple: to serve remarkable food, brew outstanding coffee, and create a welcoming space for connection. We’re proud to serve Coffee Supreme beans — from a classic flat white to a single-origin bottomless filter — so every cup is built on excellence.

What sets us apart isn’t just our coffee or our menu (though we’re very proud of both). It’s the warm, authentic atmosphere that comes from decades of genuine service. From Andrew’s original vision of a community cafe to Luke’s modern take on chef-driven brunch and coffee culture, Neo is an experience.

Whether you’re grabbing your morning espresso, lingering over brunch with friends, or catching up on work with our free Wi-Fi, Neo Cafe is more than eggs on toast — it’s part of your day, your city, and your story.

Join us at 132 Willis Street, Wellington — we’ll see you at the table.
